As promised, here is a nutritious, easy and fun snack idea! Homemade funny faces with protein packed hummus, vitamins and fiber from fresh vegetables and creative designs from your children’s imaginations.
For the hummus, blend one can of chickpeas with 1 Tablespoon of olive oil, 1 Tablespoon of Tahini (which is a paste made from sesame seeds), 1 tsp. garlic powder, 1 drop of lemon essential oil and about 2 Tablespoons of water (more or less to reach desired consistency). Bonus tip, to add more color to the hummus naturally, add 1 cup of spinach or 1 chopped carrot to the blender. Your children will enjoy the added nutrients without tasting the hidden vegetables!
Chop up some fresh vegetables in different sizes and shapes. If your children are old enough, let them help cut or shred the vegetables. Aim for a variety of colors to improve the array of nutrients and to increase the aesthetic appeal.
With all the ingredients prepared, give each child a plate and let them create! When children are involved in preparing food, they are more likely to enjoy consuming the food. Enjoy your snack together!
What are the benefits of the lemon essential oil versus 1 tsp. of lemon juice? Great question! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. When you take doTERRA lemon essential oil internally, it acts as an antioxidant and detoxifier. Plus, it tastes great! You can add a drop of lemon essential oil in a glass of water (not a plastic cup as we discussed in the safety guide). Surprisingly, it is not sour but refreshing.
